Privacy Policy

Unio ("Unio", "we", "us") helps students find verified PG and hostel accommodation, and gyms, near their college. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have. We follow the principles of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP).
Who we are
Unio is operated by a sole proprietor based in India. For any privacy question or request, contact us at contact@myunio.in.
What we collect
If you are a student:
- Your phone number (to log in and verify you via OTP)
- Your college (to show relevant listings)
- Listings you save and basic activity on the app
- Enquiries you send (when you tap "Contact on WhatsApp", we log that you contacted a listing (a home or a gym) so owners and gyms know the enquiry came from Unio)
If you are a PG or gym owner:
- Your name and WhatsApp number
- Your PG or gym details (address/area, rent or plans and pricing, rooms or facilities, timings, amenities) and photos you upload
From everyone:
- Basic device and usage data (e.g. pages viewed) and cookies/analytics to keep the app working and improve it
We only collect what we need to run the service.
Why we use your data
- To provide the core service: log you in, save listings, let you contact owners, and let owners list PGs and gyms
- To verify listings and prevent fraud/abuse
- To improve the app and understand what's useful
We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
Consent
We ask for your consent when you use features that need your data (like logging in). Where we ever collect verification documents, we ask for separate consent for verification and for any marketing — never bundled into one "I Agree".
How we store and protect it
Your data is stored securely with our technology providers, listed below. Access is restricted, and sensitive actions require you to be logged in. If we ever collect verification document images, we delete them after review and keep only the verification status.
Who we share it with
- PG and gym owners: when you choose to contact a listing, your message reaches that owner or gym via WhatsApp — you start the conversation.
- Our service providers, who process data only to provide their service to us, never for their own purposes:
- Supabase — our database, login, and file storage provider.
- Vercel — hosts the app.
- PostHog — privacy-conscious product analytics, only if you've allowed it (see our Cookie Policy). Off by default.
- Google Maps — powers the map and location picker on listing pages.
- Our SMS/OTP delivery partner, for sending login codes.
- Legal: if required by law.
We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can ask us to delete it at any time (see below).
Your rights (DPDP)
You can:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data / withdraw consent
- Raise a grievance about how we handle your data
To exercise any of these, email contact@myunio.in and we'll act on it. The app also provides a "delete my data" request option in your account.
Children / age
Unio is intended for college students. If you are under 18, please use Unio with a parent or guardian's involvement.
Changes
We may update this policy; we'll change the "last updated" date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
